There is a concept that every rule, law, or regulation comes at the expense of personal freedom. It is because of this that legislators have to be very discerning about which laws they choose to enact.

Every piece of legislation that ends up on my desk for review will have to pass a simple test before I will even consider the benefits of the proposed law. I will have to answer the question:

“Is this proposed law a function of government?”

I will not support any law that is not a legitimate function of government.

The government is not there to take care of able bodied adults. The government is there to clear the way for us to take care of ourselves. The government is there to set an environment that helps everyone to succeed or fail on their own merits, by providing equal opportunities rather than guaranteeing equal outcomes.

These are the principles I will use when it comes to legislating and will always err on the side of freedom
